Springtime in Central Minnesota

If you have to put your heat on during the morning commute only to quickly switch it to cool air on your way home, you’re probably from Central Minnesota and it’s probably springtime. Spring in Central Minnesota is a special time, it has to be when everyone has pretty much been cooped up since Thanksgiving. Spring represents newness: new beginnings, fresh starts. For Central Minnesotans, it also means we can finally start enjoying the beauty of our state without freezing, slipping, or shoveling. In an effort to welcome springtime with the gusto is so deserves, here’s a round-up of some Central Minnesota springtime merriment you can partake in:

April:
Free Spring Gardening Seminar:
There’s nothing that says “springtime” more than getting ready to start gardening. Join the University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardeners of Benton County for their Gardening Seminar. It’s free to the public, you just have to register. It’s on Thursday, April 11th from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at the Sauk Rapids-Rice Middle School.

Midwest Handmade MN Maker Fair:
This 2-day, indoor event is at the River’s Edge Convention Center in St. Cloud. As the name implies, enjoy handmade wares from this huge indoor arts and craft fair. It’s free and you’re sure to find some treasures! The event is April 27th from 10 AM – 6 Pm. Can’t make it that Saturday? You’re in luck, you can attend on Sunday April 28th from 10 AM – 4 PM.

River Lakes Beer & Wine Expo:
Looking for a little something more adult-oriented? Held at the River Lakes Civic Arena in Richmond, Minnesota, the 8th annual Beer and Wine Expo is Saturday April 27th from 2 PM – 6 PM. Featuring over 200 varieties of beer to sample and many different types of wine, plus live music and food, you’ll have a great time!

May:
2019 Taste of St. Cloud:
On May 6th, from 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM at the River’s Edge Convention Center, enjoy an array of delicious cuisines from local restaurants. With live music and a silent auction, this is sure to be a tasty event. Tickets can be purchased online at www.fcvonline.org or www.fslf.org or by checks made payable to the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls.

Lake Wobegon Trail Marathon:
Looking for some picturesque recreation? Look no further! This marathon takes place on May 11th and starts at 7 AM from Holdingford High School. Paved with asphalt on a former railroad track, the he course is flat and beautiful.
